How to Beat Amazon: A Better Sales Funnel

Many ecommerce sellers struggle with the “how do I compete with Amazon?” issue. They understand that long-term success is possible only if they do not rely on a single sales channel, massive as that channel may be. They understand the importance of building their own brand and acquiring their own customers.

Where many ecommerce sellers struggle, however, is coming up with a compelling reason for the shopper to buy their product, on their site, instead of on Amazon. How do you beat that kind of reach and credibility?

One good way to give a shopper a reason to buy from you instead of Amazon is to sell your product(s) using a multi-step sales funnel. This is something you cannot do through Amazon right now. Retailers are figuring out that a key way to compete with Amazon is to offer a better deal than Amazon – and you might even increase sales.

Look at it this way – if Amazon takes, say, 30% of your revenue – then you can use that 30% you save to offer discounts through your OWN site.

Use automation to email them special offers that get them to convert. You know what products they’re interested in because you tracked the pages they visited, or what they put in their shopping cart.

You can split-test offers to determine what works. Send behavior-based emails to show them related products or accessories. Use retargeting at the same time and make multiple offers via banner ads so that you can compare and determine which offer pulls in the buyers.

Additionally, during checkout you can upsell them more quantities of the same product at a big discount. Buyers love a deal and they’ll appreciate the savings you’re giving them, over Amazon.

One way to take control of your business future is to take control of your selling strategies. Fortunately, this is much easier to do on your own site – Amazon simply cannot compete in the same way. Use that to your advantage and you CAN persuade people to buy directly from you.
